Looking for some family fun time during the Halloween season? There are so many options out there, it's hard to know where to start! Here are some fun ideas not just for Halloween, but for the entire Autumn season.
Get a pumpkin! This seems obvious, I know, but instead of just picking one up at your local grocery store, take the kids and go to a pumpkin farm. Many times during the month of October, the local pumpkin farm will have other attractions there like live music, hayrides and crafts. It's great fun for the kids to run through the pumpkin patch and hand pick their perfect pumkin to decorate!
Now take that pumpkin home and paint it! Yes, paint it! Carving pumpkins is the normal tradition, but it can be messy and dangerous for the younger trick-or-treaters. Painting your pumpkin is an option that is safe and fun for the entire family. Get creative! Add some hair or some arms on your pumpkin person. Make it scary, or make it nice.
Watch Halloween movies! There are enough kid-friendly ones out there you can watch one or two every weekend of October leading up to Halloween. "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," or "Monsters Inc," are a couple of good ones. There's also "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Bedknobs and Broomsticks". You can put orange and black lightbulbs in your lights and make popcorn with orange colored cheese or salt on it and orange soda. Snuggle up on the couch and let the show begin!

During the day, get creative with the kids. Have them come up with their very own Halloween story! They can create characters and bring them to life using Halloween candy and construction paper. Have them come up with a setting and storyline too! Put it all in a scrapbook and create memories for years to come!
A great idea to get everyone active on those rainy fall days is to have a Monster Dance Party! Play your favorite Halloween songs, move the furniture out of the way and dance till you can't dance anymore! The kids might think you're a little nuts at first, lol, but they'll have a great time, and will probably end up thinking you're pretty cool parents at the end of it all.
If it's a nice day out, go for a nature walk. Hit a local walking trail or go to a neighborhood park. While you're out enjoying the fresh air, you can all collect some fall foliage and bring it home. Put leaves and pinecones and whatever else you can find in a bowl for a beautiful autumn centerpiece.
With a little thought and imagination, you can come up with lots of activities for your family fun on Halloween. I hope we gave you some good ideas to start with. Have a happy and safe Halloween!
